SUMMARY:What Matters Most to Patients and How to Deliver the Goods
DESCRIPTION:The overarching goal for healthcare providers\, as well as for every other stakeholder\, must be to improve value – and satisfaction – for patients. Here we defined value as delivering the health outcomes that matter most to patients at the lowest possible cost. \nTo that end\, applications that empower patients\, clinicians\, and payers will influence the future healthcare delivery landscape in three distinct ways: \n\nPatients will choose providers based on outcome value scores.\nProviders will leverage data to make targeted improvements and learn.\nPayers will measure ROI and direct patients to high-value providers.\n\nIn this session\, as a global leader in value management\, I will explain\, absent a value-based approach toward achieving desired outcomes\, patients\, clinicians and payers will suffer the consequences of inefficient and poor quality of care\, dissatisfaction\, and increased medical costs. \n  \nNote\, this will be a virtual event with Zoom link forthcoming

SUMMARY:Political Landscape: The Social Transformation of American Medicine
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: \nIs health care a privilege or a right? This is perhaps the most contentious question in the entire health care debate. Your answer as part of a constituency influences the political landscape as to whether or not expand Medicaid\, repeal the Affordable Care Act\, adopt Universal Healthcare or a Single Payer healthcare system. As the 2018 elections fast approaches the healthcare debate will be the preeminent issue that will resonate with voters. Yes\, healthcare costs are escalating and consume 19.2% of GDP\, and yes there are many shortcomings in the Affordable Care Act\, but that is not the story that matters most to people. The authentic story that matters is based on their medical condition a parent\, child\, brother or sister achieved the best health outcome relative to the cost of achieving those outcomes. Absent a value-based approach toward achieving desired outcomes patients\, clinicians and payers suffer the consequences of inefficient and poor quality of care\, dissatisfaction and increased medical costs. \nKey Takeaways \n\nBroader understanding of the healthcare debate and proposed solutions\nA Value Realization Framework to improve organizational performance and clinical outcomes\nActionable checklist for defining and measuring value\n\nKey Questions Answered by my presentation: \n\nWhere is healthcare going?\nWhat does this mean for Medicaid Expansion\, Universal Healthcare\, Single Payer\, and how politics fit into the healthcare discussion\nIs health care a privilege or a right? Your answer\, as part of a constituency\, influences the political landscape as to whether or not expand Medicaid\, repeal the Affordable Care Act\, adopt Universal Healthcare or a Single Payer healthcare system. As the 2018 elections approach\, healthcare will be the preeminent issue on the minds of voters. Yes\, healthcare costs are escalating and consume 19.2% of GDP\, and yes there are many shortcomings in the Affordable Care Act\, but that is not the story that matters most to people. The authentic story that matters is based on the medical condition a parent\, child\, brother or sister achieved with the best health outcome relative to the cost of achieving those outcomes. Without a value-based approach toward achieving desired outcomes patients\, clinicians and payers suffer the consequences of inefficient and poor quality of care\, dissatisfaction and increased medical costs.Key Takeaways-       Fresh Perspective on the healthcare debate and proposed solutions\n–       Framework to improve organizational performance and clinical outcomes based on a value realization \n–       Action items for defining and measuring value\n\n  \nNOTE: This will be a virtual event.
